Vineyard

Deaux Run's hand-tended, working vineyard provides a beautiful backdrop for photographs. Our vines remain lush and green from late April through late October, when they shed their leaves. In February, we prune the vines, then harvest the grapes in late August or early September. Even without foliage, the vines retain a striking visual appeal.
Our ever-expanding vineyard contains over 600 muscadine grape vines, a native Vitis rotundifolia variety. When we have sufficient grape production, we open the vineyard for "U-Pick" visits. Details on times and costs will be posted to our Facebook page in late August.
Muscadines are indigenous to the southeastern United States and were the first native grape species cultivated in North America. There are over 300 varieties of muscadines. Scuppernongs were the first named variety of muscadines, found near the Scuppernong River in North Carolina. We grow both bronze and red-fruited muscadine varieties here at Deaux Run. Both types make excellent jelly, syrup, or wine, and are delightfully sweet straight from the vine, with their firm skin and small seeds.
Once our vineyard can support a winery operation, we plan to begin wine production and tastings. Stay tuned for updates!
